A New Beginning

We experienced some tragedy today. There was a massive forest fire in our home town of Bastrop, which is still raging and threatening the entire town. Unfortunately, we have lost our house, everything in it, and Carol's beloved studio that I spent a year building.

We are all fine, though, and I had enough time to grab the truck and hook up the camper after Carol drove off with Jacob in the VW. So, we are in Austin in our new 24' long home safe and sound.

I am grateful that I have DPW to continue to grow and improve and am comforted to know that so many of you are out there using it.

No worries - this is the beginning of a new adventure.

- David

  28. David, I emailed Carol last week requesting a "cause" for a fundraising effort here at "home", she challenged me to find one. Perhaps you could organize an auction effort for your county and all of those affected by it? I know many of us out there would love to help.

  29. Dear Carol & David and family,
Many tears shed for you today, but also thankful that you did heed the warning and get out in time. Would it be possible to have a PO box # to send a note to you? I pray for a speedy recovery for you of your home and studio and feeling of safety. Give a call if there is any way we can help.

  39. I feel such a need to help you guys! What can we do????? The site is the perfect venue- but it's your site. That's awkward. If enough of us request it, can we donate paintings for a building fund????It would be such a small donation from each person, but it could yield tremendous results. Can we do something? PLEASE? I know you will emerge from this stronger and better than ever.

  52. I've been thinking of you guys since the fire. I'm still wondering how we could help you out. I know from experience that the insur co. is providing expense money and I have none to send anyway (stupid starving artist life)but what can we really give you but love and prayers?

  53. David, Carol & family, my thoughts are with you - and Carol, as a painter I too am mourning the loss of your wonderful studio. I implore you to consider posting a challenge from which the proceeds may help you rebuild. Member artists like myself, as well as your loyal and generous buyers would be more than happy to contribute. You've been such an inspiration to so many of us - let us help to return the favor. Blessings to you all.
